WELSH HERITAGE
This project took place in a Care home in the Rhondda Valley over the course of 14 weeks. Participants needs ranged from Dementia, mental health and some physical needs. Participants here were extremely passionate about their welsh heritage which inspired the project's theme of reflecting and reminiscing about happy memories of welsh history and life.
The project progressed week by week with participants choosing to explore a variety of memories, from: Miners banners to places they grew up in, to dancing as a child and the street parties they'd attend as a family. These were all explored using a variety of creative mediums such as: textiles, painting, crochet, knitting and crafts. As a celebration of the project, on the final day, a street party was replicated on site. In the previous weeks leading up to this, participants engaged in the creating of the party's decorations, banners and bunting, even clothing accessories! Cake and refreshments were also available at the 'street party!' The party enabled participants to recall old memories once again, helping to form deeper connections within the care home. The project was a success and a lot of fun for all involved!
