Quilt Of Memories, 2018

This artwork was in response to an articultural project in which artwork had to be created for the purpose of exhibiting outside. This piece explores people's happy memories through symbolic mark making, patterns, shapes and colours. This was a collaborative effort where each patch was created by participants in a De-stress Workshop which aimed to create a relaxing environment that encouraged people to produce meaningful artworks whilst having the opportunity to connect with one another. All the image outlines on each patch were then embroidered directly onto using coloured thread and embellishments, as well as textured fabrics sewn onto the work to create a more tactile piece, enabling each personal memory created to stand out. All patches were then hand and machine sewn together to form this Quilt of Memories. To ensure the piece was waterproof and protected from the elements, numerous coats of waterproof wax were applied.
